High Octane Posters coming soon...

High Octane posters will be coming soon.   The cars above are already available on Tee Shirts at www.HighOctaneTees.com

Tom Slick Cartoon. Good Stuff!

Here's one you probably remember if you grew up in the 60's and 70's like I did.  A classic racing cartoon and my cartoon idol as a youngster - Tom Slick!  They don't make shows like this anymore that's for sure.

Lincoln Futura

Here's a little follow up information from a previous post.  Check out the first frame of this video and you will instantly recognize the shape of the car and how it compares to a famous car from a certain 1970's TV show featuring a man who solves kooky capers dressed in a bat costume.

Snake and Mongoose: Remember these?

If you're like me (god forbid) you probably played with, or at least remember the Mattel HotWheels miniature toy cars from the early 1970's.  They were very cool looking and pretty fast little suckers depending on how fast you pushed of course.  Two in particular that stand out in my childhood memories are the "Snake and Mongoose" cars.

Click here to see the HotWheels race set!

The Mongoose was red and the Snake was yellow.  The cars were modeled after the funny cars of real life Drag Racers Tom "the Mongoose" McEwen and Don "the Snake" Prudhomme, who began their racing careers in the 1960's.

These two men were friends as well as rivals, each having been a champion driver and drag racing team owner.  Mattel sponsored these two drivers to promote their HotWheels brand name, becoming the first non-auto related sponsors car racing had seen to date.  This eventually paved the way for similar sponsorship opportunities, thereby helping promote drag racing to what it has become today.

A movie chronicling the experiences of these two rival drivers, is set to be released in 2012.

Old Mustang Ad....

One of my all time favorites (for real) It just looks fast...and IS!

See for yourself.  This car can haul!
(Video has low volume)

You want ugly?...You got it! Funny link...

Here's a good look at some of America's uglier cars throughout the years.  Funny Stuff!

Sadly, there were a lot of ugly cars made in the good old U.S. of A.
I guess everything is cyclical, even taste and design.

Awesome TV show cars...

Here are two of the coolest cars from vintage TV shows, the Munster Koach from The Munsters and of course the Batmobile from Batman.

The Munster Koach was built using the bodies of three model T's and sports a Ford Cobra 289c.i. engine, with a four-speed manual transmission.  It was 18 feet long.

The Batmobile was customized from a '55 Lincoln Futura concept car.  This one boasts a 390c.i. "Atomic Turbine" V8, as well as a batphone, mobile tracking scope, and a plethora of other "bat-gadgets".

Information on these autos was obtained from wikipedia.

AMC Pacer Commercial

Here's another one of my all-time favorites.....If Sponge Bob had a car,  I'm betting it would look a little something like the AMC Pacer.  Once referred to as the aquarium of cars, a short stocky fish bowl on wheels. A George Costanza of automobiles, if you will.

AMC definitely produced some of the more interesting cars of the 1970's.

1972 Buick Riviera Road Test

Here is a road test for the 1972 Buick Riviera.  This was my first car when I was a teen in the 80's.  My dad bought the car from our neighbor whose husband had passed away and was moving back to the French Indies.  He got a great deal on it and we used it for pulling our Palamino pop-up trailer.  When I got the chance to drive it myself, it was clear to me that this car had a ton of power.  With a 455in Engine, Four barrel Carburetor and dual exhaust, it's easy to understand why I never lost a race in this badboy.

What happened here?

Which one do you like better. They're both Mustangs right? Funny how a nasty looking street machine like the Boss Mustang could ever degenerate into a Mustang II. Doesn't progress usually work the other way? Anyone got any other examples of this occurrence? Ford did eventually correct this problem with the current Mustang on the market.

Sweet!

Here's one of my personal, um, favorites....the Suzuki X90! Once referred to as the Duckbilled Platypus of autos. Is it a car?...Is it a Truck?...Is it an SUV?... Is it a POS?...I'm betting on that last one personally.  I'm sure there was an actual purpose for this car-like vehicle, but if you're like me, you are still trying to figure out just exactly what it was. See ya at the beach Barbie!
